What you will see

Eclipse, sharks and dolphins β€” one week

Four areas of the southern Red Sea, one fixed departure, one total solar eclipse.

πŸŒ‘ Totality at Berenice
Monday 2 August 2027, early afternoon, Sun almost overhead. Berenice sits on the centre line of the eclipse path β€” about 6 min 20 s of totality. Eclipse glasses included for every guest.
Berenice
🦈 Hammerheads at Daedalus
The most reliable hammerhead site in the Red Sea. South plateau at 15–30m, best sightings on early morning dives. Oceanic whitetips and grey reef sharks on the same reef.
Daedalus Reef
🐬 Dolphins at Sataya
Sataya Dolphin House is home to a resident spinner dolphin pod. Snorkeling in the lagoon in the morning. Dolphins also appear on the surrounding reef dives.
Sataya Β· Fury Shoal
πŸͺΈ The deep-south coast
The first leg runs south from Marsa Alam to Marsa Lahmi and Berenice β€” further south than the standard Pelagic Trail, and inside the path of totality.

Example of a total solar eclipse β€” the view during totality
Why Berenice
Totality gets longer the closer you are to the centre line. Marsa Alam gets about 5 min 30 s; Berenice, on the centre line at the coast, about 6 min 20 s.
Eclipse glasses included for every guest aboard M/Y Queen Sherry
πŸ•ΆοΈ Eclipse glasses included
Every guest receives eclipse glasses. Wear them for the partial phases before and after totality β€” take them off only while the Sun is fully covered.

Never look at the partially eclipsed Sun without eclipse glasses. Cameras, phones and binoculars pointed at the Sun need a certified solar filter outside totality. The exact viewing position is set by the captain on the day, according to wind and sea conditions.

How we dive

Our principles

Three rules that apply on every shark dive, every week, without exception.

🚫
Natural encounter only
We never use bait, chum or any attractant to bring sharks to divers. Encounters happen because the animal chooses to approach. This is the only ethical way to dive with sharks.
🀝
Nothing disturbs the animal
No touching. No chasing. No blocking a shark’s path. Every diver is briefed on positioning and signals before entering the water at every shark site.
πŸ“‹
We report what we see
Unusual behaviour, new individuals, unusual aggregations β€” all observations are shared with local and international shark research organisations.
Conservation support

All shark dives aboard M/Y Queen Sherry follow the behavioural safety protocol published by redseasharks.org β€” guidelines developed by Dr Elke Bojanowski based on 20 years of direct field research at Elphinstone, Daedalus and Brothers Islands.

We actively support marine protection associations such as:

The sites β€” what to expect at each location

Marsa Alam – Marsa Lahmi
Deep south coast Β· first dives of the week
Path of totality

Queen Sherry leaves Marsa Alam Marina and heads south along the coast towards Marsa Lahmi. The first dives of the week are on the coastal reefs of this stretch β€” time to check weights and equipment before eclipse day.

Berenice
Foul Bay Β· eclipse day Β· 2 August 2027
Centre line of totality

Ancient Berenike was founded as a Red Sea trading port by Ptolemy II in the 3rd century BC and named after his mother. Today it is one of the most remote stretches of the Egyptian coast.

On 2 August 2027 the centre line of the eclipse path crosses the coast here. Totality lasts about 6 min 20 s β€” around 50 seconds longer than at Marsa Alam. Diving on eclipse day is planned around the viewing time.

Daedalus Reef
Abu Kizan Β· offshore shark dives
Marine Park since 1998

The headline shark site of the route. Hammerhead encounters on the south plateau at 15–30m, with early morning dives the priority. Oceanic whitetips, grey reef sharks, shoals of barracuda and tuna, and walls to the north, west and east.

Daedalus Lighthouse β€” the historic British lighthouse built in 1863. Marine police normally allow divers to visit and photograph it. Night dives at Daedalus are not permitted by marine park regulations.

Sataya & Fury Shoal
Dolphin House Β· Maksur Β· Claudia Β· Malahy
Middle South Red Sea

Sataya Dolphin House is a large lagoon with a sandy bottom, home to a resident pod of spinner dolphins. We snorkel in the lagoon in the morning as the dolphins arrive. Scuba diving is not permitted inside the lagoon, but dolphins often appear on the surrounding reef dives.

Fury Shoal sites β€” Maksur, Claudia, Malahy, Abu Galawa β€” coral formations and caves close to the Sataya anchorage.

FAQ

Questions we get every week

When is the eclipse and how long is totality? β–Ύ
Monday 2 August 2027, early afternoon local time. Near Berenice, on the centre line at the coast, totality lasts about 6 min 20 s. At Marsa Alam it is about 5 min 30 s β€” this is why the route goes south to Berenice for eclipse day.
Where do we watch the eclipse from? β–Ύ
From M/Y Queen Sherry, inside the path of totality near Berenice. The captain sets the exact position on the day according to wind and sea conditions.
Are eclipse glasses included? β–Ύ
Yes. Every guest receives eclipse glasses. Wear them during the partial phases before and after totality, and take them off only while the Sun is fully covered. Cameras and binoculars pointed at the Sun need a certified solar filter outside totality.
What are the dates and prices? β–Ύ
Saturday 31 July to Saturday 7 August 2027, departure and return at Marsa Alam Marina. Lower deck €2,400, upper deck €3,200.
Will I see hammerheads and dolphins? β–Ύ
The route includes Daedalus Reef, one of the best hammerhead sites in the Red Sea, and Sataya Dolphin House, home to a resident spinner dolphin pod. Sightings are wildlife, not guaranteed β€” both sites are on the program because they give the best odds.
Where should I fly in? Airport transfer details? β–Ύ
Fly into Hurghada (HRG) or Marsa Alam (RMF). Airport transfers included β€” within the defined timeframe from Hurghada airport. Full details on the transfer page.
How do I book? β–Ύ
Book directly on the M/Y Queen Sherry page β€” no agency, no added fees. Select the 31 July 2027 departure, Eclipse Big Fish: Pelagic Trail Eclipse Totality 2027, and choose lower or upper deck. You can also reach us via WhatsApp or email.
