Are you next?

What you will see

Dolphins, turtles and coral gardens in 3 nights

Two ecosystems — both chosen for calm conditions, shallow depths and wildlife access from the boat or zodiac.

🐬 Spinner & Bottlenose Dolphins
The Sataya Reef lagoon (5–18 m, sandy bottom) is one of the most reliable dolphin encounter spots in the southern Red Sea. The pod rests in the lagoon during the day — snorkellers and freedivers enter while the boat is anchored. No current, no surf. Encounters are likely on both days at this site.
Sataya Reef · Dolphin House Lagoon
🐢 Sea Turtles
Green and hawksbill turtles are regular sightings across both Sataya and Fury Shoal. Often seen resting on the reef or feeding on seagrass in the shallows. Accessible to snorkellers and beginner divers without any additional effort.
Sataya Reef · Big Abu Galawa · Small Abu Galawa
🪸 Fury Shoal Coral System
Big Abu Galawa (10–25 m) is a sheltered sand-and-coral lagoon — perfect for first dives and freediving training. Napoleon wrasse, parrotfish, stingrays are regular sightings. Small Abu Galawa includes a shallow wreck from the surface to 20 m — accessible from the zodiac for more experienced guests.

🤿 8–10 dives for OWD beginners
If you have your Open Water certification and are looking for your first real diving trip, this itinerary was built for you. All three areas are beginner-friendly — shallow lagoons, calm conditions, no currents to manage. You will come back with 8–10 dives in your logbook and a very different idea of what diving can feel like.
All sites · OWD welcome
🏅 Briefing at every site
Before each session our guide covers site conditions, depth, current and animal encounter protocol. No chasing, no touching — the same respectful approach applied on every wildlife encounter aboard MY JPMarine. Snorkellers and divers are briefed together.

How we dive

Our principles

Three rules that apply on every wildlife encounter, every week, without exception.

🚫
Natural encounter only
We never use bait, chum or any attractant to bring sharks to divers. Encounters happen because the animal chooses to approach. This is the only ethical way to dive with sharks.
🤝
Nothing disturbs the animal
No touching. No chasing. No blocking a shark’s path. Every diver is briefed on positioning and signals before entering the water at every shark site.
📋
We report what we see
Unusual behaviour, new individuals, unusual aggregations — all observations are shared with local and international shark research organisations.
Conservation support

All shark dives aboard MY JPMarine follow the behavioural safety protocol published by redseasharks.org — guidelines developed by Dr Elke Bojanowski based on 20 years of direct field research at Elphinstone, Daedalus and Brothers Islands.

We actively support marine protection associations such as:

“It was fantastic the whole trip — diving with manta rays and hammerhead sharks and snorkeling with dolphins at Sataya.”

The locations — what to expect at each stop

Sataya Reef — Dolphin House Lagoon
Days 2 & 3 · Dolphins · Sandy lagoon · 5–18 m · Beginner-friendly
Marine Park

A sandy-bottom lagoon with crystal-clear water — one of the most reliable dolphin encounter spots in Egyptian waters. Spinner and bottlenose dolphins rest here during the day. The boat anchors in the lagoon and guests enter from the platform or zodiac. No current, no surf — accessible to snorkellers, beginner divers and freedivers alike.

Two sessions at Sataya gives enough time to observe the pod without pressure. OWD divers complete their first real open-water dives here in ideal conditions. Depth range 5–18 m suits all certification levels.

Big Abu Galawa — Fury Shoal
Day 3 · Coral lagoon · Napoleon wrasse · 10–25 m · Ideal for first dives
Fury Shoal System

A fully sheltered sand and coral lagoon — one of the best beginner dive sites in the southern Red Sea. Napoleon wrasse, parrotfish, stingrays and turtles are regular sightings. No current, excellent visibility, and entry directly from the boat make this a relaxed first-dive environment.

The adjacent Small Abu Galawa site has a shallow wreck from the surface to 20 m — accessible by zodiac for more experienced freedivers and OWD divers looking to explore further.

FAQ

Questions we get every week

Do I need a dive certification to join this cruise?
No certification is required for snorkelling and freediving. If you want to scuba dive, an Open Water Diver (OWD) certification is sufficient — all sites on this itinerary are beginner-friendly. This is one of the best first-liveaboard itineraries for newly certified divers: shallow lagoons, calm conditions, no currents, and 8–10 dives in your logbook by the end of the trip.
Are dolphin encounters guaranteed?
Encounters at Sataya Reef are very likely — the resident pod uses the lagoon as a rest area and is present most days. However, wildlife encounters are never guaranteed. We spend two sessions at Sataya, which significantly increases the chances. The boat anchors in the lagoon and guests enter the water calmly from the platform.
Is this itinerary suitable for families with children?
Yes — this is one of the most family-friendly itineraries we run. All sites have calm, shallow water accessible to confident swimmers and snorkellers of all ages. Children are welcome aboard with a parent or guardian. Please contact us before booking to discuss ages and swimming ability so we can confirm suitability and answer any questions about life aboard.
Can snorkellers and scuba divers join the same trip?
Yes — and this is the norm on this itinerary. At Sataya Reef and Big Abu Galawa, both groups enter the water together at the same sites. Snorkellers stay at the surface while divers go deeper. The guide manages both groups. Sessions from the boat platform or zodiac work for everyone.
What is the difference between this cruise and the 4-night itinerary?
The 3-night cruise focuses on Sataya Reef and Fury Shoal — dolphins and coral gardens, no dugong site. It runs Wednesday to Saturday and has zero night crossings. The 4-night itinerary adds Marsa Mubarak (dugongs and sea turtles) and runs Saturday to Wednesday. Both are beginner-friendly. If you have more time, the 4-night gives one extra wildlife ecosystem and more sessions at each site.
What equipment do I need to bring?
Snorkellers and freedivers can bring their own mask, fins and wetsuit — storage space is available aboard. Full rental gear (mask, fins, wetsuit, BCD, regulator, computer) is available if you prefer to travel light. Book equipment rental in advance. See the full list and prices on the equipment rental page.
