Explore all the BIG STUFF of the sea during one week.
The itinerary is well-suited for both experienced and beginner divers. Nearly every reef offers different locations and dive plans tailored to various skill and experience levels.
What you will see
Big pelagics — all in one week
Three iconic sites. One flexible itinerary. Every dive plan is adapted to your certification level.
🦈 Hammerhead sharks
Two full days at Daedalus — the most reliable hammerhead site in the Red Sea. South plateau at 15–30m. Best sightings at dawn. Up to 5 shark species possible in a single week.
Daedalus Reef
🐬 Dolphins — snorkeling & scuba
Sataya Dolphin House is home to a resident spinner dolphin pod. Snorkeling in the lagoon every morning. Scuba diving encounters possible in the surrounding reefs.
Sataya · Fury Shoal
🦈 Oceanic whitetip sharks
Elphinstone’s north and south plateaus at –20m and –40m. Oceanic whitetips present year-round. Early morning dives also produce hammerhead encounters.
Elphinstone Reef
🐠 Caves & coral gardens
Fury Shoal sites — Maksur, Claudia, Malahy, Abu Galawa — offer spectacular coral formations, caves, and night dives. Two nights at anchor with torch dives included.
Sataya · Fury Shoal
🦑 Mantas & pelagic life
Manta ray sightings are possible throughout the route. Turtles at Elphinstone and Marsa Alam area. Dugong encounters occasionally on Friday dives — ask the guide.
All sites
🏅 Shark briefing at every site
All shark dives follow the protocol developed by Dr Elke Bojanowski of the Red Sea Sharks Trust. Full species-specific briefing before every shark site — behaviour, signals, positioning.
18–21 dives depending on season and conditions. Night dives at Daedalus are not available for safety reasons. Night dives at Sataya–Fury Shoal are included.

The Pelagic Trail offers a unique Red Trail / Blue Trail daily dive planning concept — giving beginners and experienced divers the opportunity to dive at the same time with different dive plans tailored to their level.
Example — Tuesday at Daedalus:
🔵
Blue Trail
Daedalus Lighthouse · South Plateau · North Point. Maximum depth 15–20m. Passing sharks, schools of fish, Napoleons — relaxed dives with plenty of marine life.
🔴
Red Trail
Daedalus Lighthouse · South Plateau · North Point · Daedalus Drop-Off deep dive to 40m. For experienced divers seeking the full open-water challenge.

Three rules that apply on every shark dive, every week, without exception.
🚫
Natural encounter only
We never use bait, chum or any attractant to bring sharks to divers. Encounters happen because the animal chooses to approach. This is the only ethical way to dive with sharks.
🤝
Nothing disturbs the animal
No touching. No chasing. No blocking a shark’s path. Every diver is briefed on positioning and signals before entering the water at every shark site.
📋
We report what we see
Unusual behaviour, new individuals, unusual aggregations — all observations are shared with local and international shark research organisations.
Conservation support
All shark dives aboard MY JPMarine follow the behavioural safety protocol published by redseasharks.org — guidelines developed by Dr Elke Bojanowski based on 20 years of direct field research at Elphinstone, Daedalus and Brothers Islands.
We actively support marine protection associations such as:
“Monday morning we had hammerheads at Daedalus — Wednesday we were snorkeling with dolphins at Sataya. In five days I got everything I came for and more.”
— Madeline, our guest · Pelagic Trail, 2024

Questions about certification, dolphins, or dive levels? We answer every message personally.
PADI Advanced Open Water Diver courses run aboard MY JPMarine every week. Complete your certification mid-trip and unlock the Daedalus deep drop-off (40m) and the full Elphinstone plateaus on the same journey. Course price: €280.
The headline site of the Pelagic Trail. Two full days here gives you the best odds of hammerhead encounters in the Red Sea — south plateau at 15–30m, early morning dives are the priority. Also home to oceanic whitetips, shoals of barracuda, tuna, and dramatic walls to the north, west and east.
Daedalus Lighthouse — built in 1863, the historic British lighthouse on the island. Marine police normally allow divers to visit and photograph it. Night dives at Daedalus are not available — prohibited by marine park regulations for safety reasons.
Sataya & Fury Shoal
Dolphin House · 2 full days diving + 2 night dives
Middle South Red Sea
Sataya Dolphin House is a large lagoon with a sandy bottom — home to a resident pod of spinner dolphins. Every morning we snorkel in the lagoon as the dolphins arrive. Scuba diving is not permitted inside the lagoon, but dolphins frequently appear on the surrounding reef dives.
Fury Shoal sites — Maksur, Claudia, Malahy, Abu Galawa — offer spectacular coral gardens, dramatic caves, and excellent night dives. Two nights at anchor gives us time to explore the full reef system, including rare coral formations only reachable by liveaboard.
Elphinstone Reef
Shagra · 1–2 days diving
North of Marsa Alam
One of the Red Sea’s star dive sites. The reef runs 350m north to south with two plateaus at –20m and –40m — the primary points for oceanic whitetip observations. The southern plateau descends to 40m then drops off into open water. Hammerheads also appear here on early morning dives.
Unpredictable currents at this site — divers must follow guide instructions closely. The Arabic name Shagra (Blondie) comes from the bright red mountain visible on the shore when moored at the reef.
Questions about Pelagic trail? We answer every message personally — usually within a few hours.
Pelagic Trail is ideal for mixed groups — Red Trail and Blue Trail planning allows beginners and experienced divers to dive together at the same sites with different plans.
Daedalus Reef is one of the best hammerhead sites on the planet, and the Pelagic Trail spends two full days there. Morning dives on the south plateau at 15–30m offer the highest encounter odds. Up to 5 shark species possible in a single week including oceanic whitetips. Sightings are wildlife — not guaranteed — but two days at Daedalus gives you every reasonable chance.
Yes, Open Water divers are welcome on the Pelagic Trail. We highly recommend completing your AOWD aboard during the trip — it unlocks the full itinerary including Daedalus deep drop-offs. If you prefer not to take the course, OWD divers must dive with a buddy committed to a 20m maximum depth limit for the entire week. If no such buddy is available, a private guide is required at additional cost. Contact us before booking to discuss the best option for your level.
Yes. Sataya Dolphin House is home to a resident pod of spinner dolphins. We snorkel in the lagoon every morning as the dolphins arrive — visibility is excellent and the encounters are close and natural. Scuba diving is not permitted inside the lagoon, but dolphins frequently appear on the surrounding reef dives outside the lagoon. This is always one of the highlights of the week.
The Pelagic Trail runs year-round with Saturday departures every week. Water temperatures between 22°C and 30°C, visibility regularly above 30 metres. Hammerhead activity at Daedalus peaks in spring and autumn. The Sataya dolphin pod is resident — encounters are reliable year-round.
Both itineraries visit Daedalus Reef, but the routes diverge significantly.
Pelagic Trail — combines Daedalus sharks with Sataya dolphins, Fury Shoal coral gardens and night dives, and Elphinstone. Open to all levels including OWD divers.
