“The tiger shark came within 2 metres during the safety stop at Tiger Point — nobody expected it that close at 6 m. We did it four more times that week.”

The dive sites — what to expect
Tiger Point
Primary tiger shark site · 5–7 m depth · year-round
Main site
Shallow site at 5–7 m — easy conditions for extended observation time. Resident tiger sharks are present year-round; maximum visibility is Jan–Apr (up to 45 m). The depth suits AOWD divers and makes photography practical without pressure from depth limits.
Dive starts from the harbour. Strict protocol enforced: no gloves, no touching, no flash photography. All divers briefed before entry. Guide-to-diver ratio: 1:6 high season, 1:4 low season.
Tiger Wall
Wall dive · tiger sharks + reef species · max 30 m (AOWD)
Wall dive
Wall dive with tiger shark sightings at various depths. AOWD divers can go to 30 m; OWD limit 18 m at reef sites. Also visited by silvertip sharks, whitetip reef sharks, and schools of yellowfin tuna, barracuda, and giant trevally.
Two reef dives per day alongside the tiger shark dive. Grey reef sharks, silvertips, and whitetips regular at reef sites. Seasonal: thresher sharks and hammerheads May–July, whale sharks and mola mola Oct–Dec. Exact sites confirmed by guide based on conditions.

PADI & SSI certified guides — local and international
Minimum AOWD (Advanced Open Water Diver) with at least 30 logged dives. OWD divers can participate in the tiger shark dive but must pass an in-water evaluation and follow guide instructions at all times. Reef dive depth limit for OWD divers: 18 m.
Are tiger shark encounters guaranteed?
Tiger sharks are present year-round at Tiger Point and Tiger Wall — this is one of the very few places in the world where this is reliably the case. Encounters happen on every dive day. Wildlife can never be 100% guaranteed, but the resident population makes Fuvahmulah one of the most consistent tiger shark destinations globally.
Is this safe? How do you manage the tiger sharks?
Tiger sharks are apex predators. Dives take place at 5–7 m with strict protocols: no touching, no chasing, no blocking the shark’s path, no flash photography. Experienced guides are in the water at all times. All divers are briefed before every tiger shark dive. Guide-to-diver ratio: 1:6 high season, 1:4 low season. Emergency oxygen is aboard every boat. The nearest decompression chamber is in Malé.
What other species will I see?
Beyond tiger sharks daily, Fuvahmulah has thresher sharks and hammerheads (May–July), oceanic manta rays (May–July), whale sharks and mola mola (Oct–Dec). Year-round: silvertip, whitetip reef, and grey reef sharks, plus yellowfin tuna, giant trevally, and barracuda on reef dives.
What’s the best season to visit?
Tiger sharks are year-round. For best visibility (up to 45 m) and calmer conditions, Jan–Apr is peak. May–July adds thresher sharks, hammerheads, and oceanic mantas. Oct–Dec brings possible whale shark and mola mola sightings. Currents are stronger in peak season; moderate in low season.
